چکیده

This work analyses the implications of discretization on fluid-fairness. In this context, discretization means being fluid-fair with a chosen granularity. The operation of a discretized scheduler is very simple and has constant overhead, and provides a parameterizable deviation from the optimal delay and fairness bounds provided by a fluid scheduler. Discretized schedulers can actually improve the end-to-end delay bounds by achieving a cutthrough forwarding effect through a network path. We derive these deviations for both work-conserving and nonwork-conserving discretized schedulers. The traffic model used in the analysis is the one proposed in [2]. We also present an operational overhead analysis comparing packetized and discretized schedulers. Studying discretization is interesting since most high-speed switch cores use at least one notion of discretization, viz, discretization in size. Moreover, discretization permits efficient hardware implementations for scheduling and processing flows.

A Fourth Order Formulation of DDM for Crack Analysis in Brittle Solids

A fourth order formulation of the displacement discontinuity method (DDM) is proposed for the crack analysis of brittle solids such as rocks, glasses, concretes and ceramics. A fourth order boundary collocation scheme is used for the discretization of each boundary element (the source element). In this approach, the source boundary element is divided into five sub-elements each recognized by a ...

A monolithic fluid-structure interaction formulation for solid and liquid membranes including free-surface contact

A unified fluid-structure interaction (FSI) formulation is presented for solid, liquid and mixed membranes. Nonlinear finite elements (FE) and the generalized-α scheme are used for the spatial and temporal discretization. The membrane discretization is based on curvilinear surface elements that can describe large deformations and rotations, and also provide a straightforward description for con...

Numerical Study of a 3D Eulerian Monolithic Formulation for Incompressible Fluid-Structures Systems

An algorithm is derived for a hyperelastic incompressible solid coupled with a Newtonian fluid. It is based on a Eulerian formulation of the full system in which the main variables are the velocities. After a fully implicit discretization in time it is possible to eliminate the displacements and solve a variational equation for the velocities and pressures only. The stability of the method depe...

A Mixed Displacement-based Finite Element Formulation for Acoustic Fluid-structure Interaction

The solutions of fluid-structure interaction problems, using displacement-based finite element formulations for acoustic fluids, may contain spurious non-zero frequencies. To remove this deficiency, we present here a new formulation based on a three-field discretization using displacements, pressure and a “vorticity moment” as variables with an appropriate treatment of the boundary conditions. ...

Convergence of the ghost fluid method for elliptic equations with interfaces

This paper proves the convergence of the ghost fluid method for second order elliptic partial differential equations with interfacial jumps. A weak formulation of the problem is first presented, which then yields the existence and uniqueness of a solution to the problem by classical methods. It is shown that the application of the ghost fluid method by Fedkiw, Kang, and Liu to this problem can ...
